You saw my Instagram, you saw that I purchased a few things from Knix. Right?

I have been watching this brand of undergarments for some time and really like their philosophy and idea behind the brand. I especially liked that Zehra Alibhai became an affiliate and had a promo code of 30% off. I used it to make my purchase which was definitely worth it. So I purchased the the 8-in-1 Evolution Bra and the Padded 8-in-1 Evolution Bra. I used their sizing ‘algorithm’ and eagerly awaited my order. I even added the Athletic bikini underwear and the Thigh Saver Shorts and can’t wait to try out the Don’t Sweat it T-shirt under my scrubs when I start work soon.

So here is what I experienced: the underwear stands true to everything they claim, perfectly seamless, really smooth. I love wearing them under desi clothes as well as maxi skirts and dresses as often that jersey material doesn’t hide anything. It is not a curry girls’ favorite fabric. Now for the bras, also seamless and the straps are nice and wider which helps with support and is often key to a good bra. However, the band really cuts in around your ribs, and I had a lot of spillage, for lack of a better word. If you’re a curvy girl, have some extra love up above you need a solid bra to contain all you got. I wore a t-shirt on top and you could see the there was extra rolling going on above my armpits as well as in the back.

I really was disappointed as I feel if there was boutique nearby I could go in for a proper bra fitting and would be had better success with this product. The padded bra I find useful to ensure nothing shows, especially under desi clothing and scrubs. Unfortunately, it also reacted the same way to my body type. I looked at the website and tried to see a model close to my body type and see if she had the same problems, and couldn’t find quite that girl. Needless to say, I am returning these two items. It was really easy to do so. Just sent an email and received an attachment including a proper waybill that all I had to do was unbox the bras and put them in another shipping box and tape the waybill to it and send it via regular post, free of cost.

Once they receive it they will reimburse me. They also offered to give me feedback regarding fitting and such, but I was kinda over it at this point. Still on the hunt for the perfect foundation garment. Really miss my go-to boutique in the YEG. Dawn’s Bra-tique is amazing. She belongs to a generation of a long standing women-run business reaching as far back as the original settlers. Although her price point is higher, I really find it worth it. As it decreases the strain on my back as well as makes my body look they way I like it to. Own what your mama gave ya!

If you tried KnixWear, let me know how you faired!

Pretty potluck look: So I’m part of this potluck group here in Austin, the lovely Farheen added me to a group of distinguished and discerning women who have families and have wholeheartedly welcomed me into their group. I attended my dear friend Juvairia’s potluck this past saturday of a Mediterranean theme. I brought the falafel and fatoush (my fave Mediterranean salad) that we ordered from Arpeggio Grill because I did not have enough time to prepare these items myself. I really enjoyed Arpeggio’s food when I first came to Austin. It’s a nice place to find authentic Mediterranean and halal food. But lately, it hasn’t been the best. The falafel were too dry, and the sale was already dressed with the pita chips which made them soggy when we actually ate. I had hoped they wouldn’t kept them on the side like Peace Bakery does. Hindsight and all that, I guess.

It was a fun night, where awe caught up with what’s new in each others lives. Kids birthdays coming up, new babies on the way and therefore, gender reveal party coming up. Wonderful gardening stories shared and my eagerness to get out in my own garden portrayed. It’s like old friends of numerous years catching up on the daily. There is some truth to this new notion of Squad goals, or love. A sisterhood truly is invaluable and only after I moved away from my network of sisters in Edmonton, AB did I truly feel what this means for any female, of any age, anywhere in this world. It is truly invaluable.

I digress, the picture of me below is the look I created with the product image above. It’s hard to see the eyeshadow, but I put just the lightest touch the iridescent purple shadow of Fenty Beauty’s Galaxy palette in the center of my eyelid’s lower half, and along the lower rim. Wanted a hint of glam, but more a muted polished look. I found that the RCMA colorless powder did not sit nicely on the FlowerBeauty skincognito foundation. Even after blending over again with a damp Mikasa Beauty makeup blender sponge, it did not set nicely, it looked too textured and not smooth, like it usually does without finishing powder. I plan on trying it out with other foundations, to see if its an ingredient thing or a technique thing. By the by, the Skincognito foundation sticks by FLowerBeauty are on sale for $7.70 on their website! Finally, I can’t figure out the Stellar Lighting Systems Go Diva Selfie Ring Light and so  I have purchase a new lighting system necessary for proper photos. Stay tuned!

In the end the look was still what I wanted, a clean hint of glam, my own lashes, not falsies look. What do you think?

So    many stunning valentines day looks out there on the gram and snapchat, etc. But serious, can we talk about this for a minute. There’s a select few of the overall female population who can rock a hugely bold look on the daily. Can you really show up to your office, or hospital, or school, or wherever with stickers, flowers, or bold glitter eyelids or lips? I know I can not. I currently work at two different schools as substitute teacher and at another school as. school nurse. Trust me when I tell you, you students will be more distracted by the extra bold colors or look on my face than what they’re gonna be learning that day. To be fair, its not likely too much learning is gonna happen tomorrow due to all the candy and valentines shared. But still, I have to do my best.

Thus, I created this look for the working women with day jobs where maybe the gem stone eyeliners and red eyelids won’t really go so well. Still figuring out the lighting, clearly!! Lol. 💞
I used @fentybeauty Galaxy eyeshadow palette because I love that it has just enough buildable shimmer and sparkle for both day and night looks. I used Milky Way on the whole lid and Sunburst in the lower lashline and on the hearts. Inner eye duct and eyebrow highlight is eyeshadow by @noniecreme in autumn olive and @anastasiabeverlyhills Prism palette colour Eden in the crease. @limecrimemakeup Velvetine liquid lipstick are the hearts outlined with @stilacosmetics eyeliner.

This was a quick look which I added some night time glam via lashes in vixen by @azeredocosmetics. The featured image of the one eye shows that look. Below is the overall look and another picture my cat Sheroo getting excited with me for the product pic of everything I sued. Pro Tip: To complete the look add a splash of color via @limecrimemakeup velveteen liquid lipstick and away you go!

Sunday January 7th 2018, was a wonderfully fun day spent at Mueller Lake Park, Austin. My husband Daunish and I went to the Texas Farmers Market where we are almost regulars. I love farmers markets, there’s a lovely one in Edmonton, Alberta, called the Old Strathcona Farmer’s Market where I used to go often. This was a sheltered market as the weather in Edmonton is a bit more unpredictable than here in Austin. You can expect all kinds of weather all within the same day, sleet, snow, rain, sunshine. You name it, it’s happened!

The Texas Farmers Market at Mueller is a long stretch of tented stalls selling a wide range of items from freshly baked breads, fresh farm produce, meats, and eggs, to organic lavender creams and homemade soaps. My favorite stands are the produce ones, where I gain inspiration for healthy meals to cook for the week. This time I came home with fresh turnip, beets, and heirloom carrots. I’m planning on making my grandmas recipe for a delicious East Indian dish of shaljam ghosht, meaning Turnips and beef, as well as using the beets and carrots in side salads for the week.

After the market we had a delicious brunch at Halcyon where Daunish had the Big “D” Benedict and I enjoyed the Veggie Monster egg skillet. Halcyon is a really fun place to have a meal or just grab a coffee. They have started to come out with small pastries such as mini banana breads and assorted muffins. They have a vibrant self seating system where you can sit at one of their shared spaces or at a table in the back. I used their space when I was studying for the NCLEX. I require a lot of natural light to keep me awake and alert, and of course the constant smell of coffee helps! This, Halcyon is a go-to location for me and now Daunish too!

There’s nothing the effect of the constant reminder of the various mainstream products advertisements of their products. But when you go into a store like Target and decide to stop in the beauty isles, because you know, you just can not help it. You find there’s a decently competent sales person working there who see’s that you’ve walked around a product a few times, clearly debating which color to buy and she says, ” so I see you’re debating something here, can I give an opinion? This product I was debating was the Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink Lip Color. I couldn’t choose between the rich plum shade in Believer or the nice peachy nude in Dreamer.

She began telling me about her journey with this product and how she’s a smoker and often found that any lipstick would eventually need touching throughout the day. But this particular lip color stayed on, lasted the whole day, regardless of how many cigs she had, or if she ate or drank anything, she did not need to re-touch it! I asked her if the product came off easily and she quickly said oh ya, the makeup wipes work best. She then went on to explain that the more dramatic shades were her go-to colors and that she had been hunting for a nice plum. She opted for the darker plum in this new Maybelline line called Escapist and loved it.

I was clearly intrigued asked a million questions ranging from length of time to dry to if it required a lip liner and so  on. Finally, I also opted for a richer tone and was super excited to go home and try it. She then returned with more wonderful info, that the Target app saves you money daily. Basically, if you are looking of r a particular product, check the app in case its part of the daily sale and that today these Lip Colors were on sale for 20% off and they are already fairly low priced at Target as it is!

Below is a picture of my trying it out for the first time. I was on my way to the Montessori  where I work and loved that it didn’t actually take as much time to put on. I find it really difficult to apply lip color within the lines as I have really strange skin around my lips. But the applicator in this precast really helped me out and as long as you remove anything that got outside the lines before it dries then your golden! It lasted the whole day, did not come off. truly does feel like you’ve applied ink on your lips. Only weird thing I notices is that when I did drink something like coffee, the color started to peel apart in bits on the inside part of my lips. It was almost like you were eating tiny bits of the product. Not the best experience there, but honestly minor for a busy day where you don’t have time to be concerned with your makeup.

Definitely go give this product a try, at $7.19 at Target, you really can not go wrong! They have a range of 20 colors and although in store there were only 9 on display and even less available due to the sale, keep your eye out. They will have them in stock soon enough! Leave a comment below if you’ve tried this product and what you felt!
